How to choose between one panel and a tiled wall
Pick by total image size and shape
If 86 to 98 inches in 16:9 is enough, a single signage panel is simpler, cheaper and quieter. If the install needs to be larger than that, taller, wider, or non-rectangular, a tiled wall becomes the right answer. The break-even point is usually when one panel cannot cover the wall.
Account for viewing distance
The minimum comfortable viewing distance is roughly 1.5 to 2 times the screen height for casual viewing; closer for content meant to be read in detail. A 75-inch panel is fine for a meeting room of ten people; a tiled wall in a lobby seen from 5 to 30 metres away calls for different sizing.
Consider redundancy and service
A single panel fails in one event; the whole image is dark until replacement. A tiled wall fails one panel at a time; the install can usually keep operating with a visible gap until the spare panel arrives. For control centres and round-the-clock retail this matters; for office meeting rooms it usually does not.
Match daily duty to the rating
Panels are rated for the duty cycle they are designed to run: 16 hours for seven days, or a full 24 by 7. Running a 16-by-7 panel for twenty-four hours a day shortens the life of the backlight and electronics. Match the rating to the actual schedule, including weekends and overnight loops, before specifying.
Key features to compare
Bezel-to-bezel gap
Measured in millimetres between two adjacent panels' active areas. Premium tiled-wall panels go down to 0.88 mm; mid-range is 1.8 to 3.5 mm. The lower the bezel, the cleaner stitched images look at viewing distance.
Brightness
Standard indoor signage runs at 350 to 500 nits. High-brightness panels for shop fronts and bright lobbies need 700 to 2,500 nits. Window-facing panels in direct sunlight need 2,500 to 4,000 nits.
Content and management
Built-in System-on-Chip (SoC) panels run the player inside the screen, with no external box. External players give more processing power and easier upgrades. Network-managed signage updates content remotely and reports back on player health, essential for any roll-out beyond a few panels.

Signage panels use commercial-grade components rated for 16 or 24 hours of daily operation, support landscape and portrait orientation, include scheduling and management features, and use parts selected for stable colour over a 50,000-hour life. Consumer televisions are built for a few hours of evening use; running them at signage duty cycles tends to wear them out within months.
Can a tiled wall display one large image, or only a grid?
The video wall controller stitches the panels together so a single image spans the entire wall. Most installs run that way for advertising and corporate use. Control rooms often switch between one large image and a grid of multiple sources for monitoring; the controller handles both modes.
How thin are tiled-wall bezels in current installs?
Modern tiled-wall panels have bezel-to-bezel gaps as low as 0.88 mm in premium models and 1.8 to 3.5 mm in mid-range. The lower the bezel, the cleaner a stitched image looks; the cost rises sharply with thinner bezels.
Do large-format panels need active cooling?

What replaces tiled walls when direct-view Light-Emitting Diode (LED) becomes cost-effective?
Direct-view LED panels (DvLED) are increasingly used for very large installs, with seamless stitching and no bezels at all. They cost more per square metre than tiled Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) walls today but pull level for huge installs and dominate above about 200 inches diagonal. For most office and retail installs, LCD tiled walls remain the practical choice.
