Are laser projectors really worth the price?
For installations running daily for several years, yes. The lamp replacement schedule on traditional projectors adds 200 to 600 EUR every two to three years per projector, plus the service visit. Laser projectors run for the install's full life with no lamp replacements. For occasional use (a few hours per week), traditional lamp projectors stay cost-effective.
What is the difference between standard, short-throw and ultra-short-throw?
Standard-throw projectors need 3 to 5 metres of distance for a 100-inch image. Short-throw projectors do the same in 1.5 to 2.5 metres. Ultra-short-throw projectors sit 30 to 100 cm from the wall and project from below the image. The choice depends on the room: small rooms with no ceiling height for a long throw use short or ultra-short throw.
Do I need a special screen, or will any white wall do?
A flat white wall works as an emergency screen but reflects ambient light back as much as projector light, which washes out the image. A proper projection screen (fixed-frame, motorised or tripod) has a matte white or grey surface designed to reflect projector light selectively, giving better contrast in lit rooms. Specify the screen alongside the projector.
Can I project onto an existing whiteboard?
Standard whiteboards reflect light unevenly and create hot spots. Projection-capable whiteboards exist with matte surfaces designed to absorb glare. For interactive classroom and meeting use, a short-throw projector aimed at a proper interactive whiteboard or projection screen gives a much better result than projecting onto a regular whiteboard.
